Travel & Leisure asked 60,000 people to rank their favorite cities and we didn’t do so well.  I thought what was most interesting was how they separated visitors and locals responses.

By and large, the answers were pretty similar.  There was only one area where we had a major disagreement.  Residents said we rank 21st for skyline/views while visitors said we were 13th.

Overall, DC ranks high for:

  • Culture/arts/museums
  • Ethnic food choices
  • Diverse people
  • Smart people
  • Worldly people
  • Transportation ease
  • Notable neighborhoods
  • Public parks/space

We stink at:

  • Affordability
  • Clubbing
  • Live music
  • Singles scene (umm yeah — thank you T& L for finally getting that right!)
  • Safety
  • Peace & Quiet
  • BBQ
  • Cheap Eats
  • Coffee
  • Food Overall
  • Pizza
  • Attractive people (huh, do you think this has to do with the bad singles scene?)
  • Friendly people
  • Fun people
  • Stylish people
  • Flea market
  • Home designs
  • Jewelry
  • Shoes
  • Shopping (overall)
  • Vintage clothes
  • Active/adventure vacation
  • Girlfriend getaway
  • Relaxing retreat
  • Romantic escape
  • Sports’ fan trip
  • Type of trip overall
  • Wild weekend

Wow, that’s quite a long list of what we don’t do well.  Kind of depressing isn’t it?

Oh well, I still really like this city.  It might not be the best, but it’s entertaining.
