food blog

As I’ve mentioned in the past, I was a vegetarian.  I’m not anymore, but I do try to buy meat without hormones, locally grown, etc.

So when I read VeggieLove’s post on why she’s not a 100% vegetarian, I thought it was a really thoughtful and articulate piece.

I think what a lot of people are trying to do (myself included) is to remember and respect the food we eat.

The recent trend of wanting to get back to the root (no pun intended) of where our food comes from — instead of eating from factory farms — is fantastic.  Plus, it’s healthier in the long run.

BTW, NYT wrote today that that companies who make cloned animals will now be able to track them from barn to slaughterhouse.  This will make it easier for consumers (and companies) to know and label what food is cloned.

One of my favorite food blogs is metrocurean, written by Amanda McClements, a Washington, D.C.-based freelance writer.

Not only does she have the most-up-to-date news and information on restaurant closings and openings, but she has this great weekly feature called, “Five Bites on Friday,” where readers get to post their favorite places to go in DC.

I think it’s a great resource so I thought I’d share with you guys.  Make sure to bookmark her!
